June 30
We flew into Rome on a very pleasant trip from Charlotte. We somehow arrived early and we were able to get two sets of two seats next to each other. That was just fine with the girls...they sat together while Vicki and I sat together. The meals were also a pleasant surprise and I just happened to have taken care of two of our flight attendants families. I had a Glenlivet to finish the meal and perhaps not by coincidence was the last one to get up in the plane the next day.
We then arrange to get on our Alitalia flight after a two hour delay to arrive in Venice. I was beginning to regret not taking the trains, but all was well in the end. We could not locate our driver and I called the office...by that time, he had found us.
The Hotel Cipriani was splendid. Clean with a beautiful view of Venice. I was able to secure a dinner at the hotel restaurant by calling directly, although the concierge said they were full. For what they charge for dinner, they should be happy to make space. We had a pleasant walk along the waterfront before retiring for the evening.
